Summer is easy and the knitting is fine!

Hi All,
I haven't been here in awhile but it doesn't mean I am not knitting, hope you all are too!  I wanted to update everyone and remind you all that our next meeting is Thursday, August 19th, 7pm at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse...hope to see everyone then!

UPDATES:
Three blankets knitted by Maureen, Kristina and me were sent over to a fantastic group of knitters at Novartis Pharmaceuticals who were donating them to a local camp for children with cancer.

So many beautiful baby hats went to Saint Martin de Porres homeless shelter and we received a beautiful card from the Director expressing her gratitude.

We have quite a number of beautiful scarves yet to be delivered and many, many blanket squares which are being sewn together as we speak!

Now we are working on caps for cancer patients for the Valerie Fund.  The request is for soft knitted caps  for ages 5 to 25.  There are so many patterns of hats to choose from and I have listed a few I thought were good below.  I also have a pattern from Bernat that uses Softee Chunky yarn.  Easy, soft and fun...I found the yarn at Michael's...Click here for the pattern book and you can see the patterns and yarn too. I knitted one up in just a couple of nights...If you want more details on the pattern and amount of yarn needed, just send me an email or give me a call and I will share the info.

Peace, L

Happy Spring! Next knitting gathering is Thursday, April 15
7PM at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse

I know some of you are still working on hats and scarves which is just fine - keep knitting!

We have also decided to start making blankets. Debbie and I have purchased a bunch of skeins of baby yarn and will be looking for some volunteers to knit 12" x 12" squares which we will put together to make lovely little baby blankets - size 10 knitting needles needed! Of course you are always welcome to create your own blankets as well.

Hope to see everyone on Thursday!

A baby hat is born....

Hello Knitting Friends,
I wanted to share a picture of Bridget's very first hat...she graduated from scarves! I am sure it will bring warmth to a very special little person.

We continue to have new people join us at each gathering which is great - welcome Liz, Wimberly, Bea and Nancy.

Next meeting is Thursday, April 15th at the Fayson Lakes clubhouse, 7pm...lets hope for beautiful spring weather!!!!!

Keep on knitting...peace, L

Keep on Knittin!

Debbie and I made the first delivery to a local shelter for homeless and battered women and children last weekend and boy was it eye opening...a few of the children dug right in and put the scarves right on...the baby hats were pulled out for two newborns that were expected to arrive that afternoon from the hospital.  All of your wonderful knitted gifts were greatly appreciated and I am sure will be put to good use!

Thanks to Debbie for directing me to the Charity section of Lion Brand Yarn's website!  I found a really cool organization called Binky Patrol - they collect handmade (knitted, crocheted or sewn) blankets and give them to children in need of comfort....LOVE THAT!  And they have a local chapter in Clifton, NJ....http://www.binkypatrol.org.

Lion Brand has many free patterns for blankets from beginner to intermediate...check it out at http://www.lionbrand.com.  A good local place to find their yarn is Michael's.

For those of you still working on hats and scarves, do not feel pressured, just keep knitting and bring whatever you are working on to the next gathering - 3/18, 7pm - Fayson Lakes Clubhouse!

For newcomers, we have plenty of yarn and needles to get you started so just come on over!
Happy to see the sun & warm weather creeping up on us...spring is coming!

Knitting Away!

Our second Knitting night was again a big success, we have had such a great start and I am so grateful to everyone who is contributing to this mission.

Total pieces to date: 16 hats & 12 scarves...a great start and I know there are a number of you finishing up pieces as I type...

I will be making our first donation to a local battered womens shelter that houses women and their children surviving domestic, sexual violence and homelessness.  They were so excited to have our hand knitted items to share with their residents.

Our group knitting nights are set in stone for the third Thursday of each month - next one March 18th - at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse...7pm. Continue to spread the word and bring more bodies...the more knitters the better - beginners WELCOME!

Again, my thanks to everyone who has knitted their heart out and donated so far...keep knitting!
peace, Lauren

A Fun & Great Start!

"Some people give time, some money, some their skills & connections, some literally give their life's blood. But everyone has something to give." ~ Barbara Bush

THANK YOU, TO THE WONDERFUL LADIES WHO CAME TO OUR FIRST GATHERING THIS WEEK: we had some "old" knitters who revived their talents, some "obsessive" knitters who pumped out quite a few baby hats, and some "brandy-new" knitters who picked it up quite quickly!  I am excited to report we have a fantastic start to our first projects.

We will come together again at the end of February (date to be announced).  We are looking to grow, grow, grow this club so please spread the word to any knitters you know or anyone who wants to be a knitter....

If there are any of you out there knitting away and would like to contribute, please contact me at lauren@soundboardconsulting.com.

I am so grateful to all who are supporting this endeavor...peace, L
