Beautiful Prayer Shawls

The group has made so many wonderful prayer shawls that I know will bring comfort and warmth to their recipients.  We have wrapped some up and delivered yet are still looking to share more. If there is someone in the community (or anywhere else for that matter) that you know who may need a comforting gift, please let me know and I would be happy to deliver or send!
As discussed at our last get together we have decided to make baby blankets for Several Sources Shelter.  If you are still working on prayer shawls that is great too!  Please work at your own pace and do not feel any pressure.

We will meet again on Thursday, April 21st - 7pm...See you then!  Peace, L

Champagne Fizz Hat!

I am excited to share that we had three new members join us last month - Lynn, Doris and Tammy - all looking to be great contributors to the group!

Our next meeting is Thursday, February 24th, 7pm at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse.  We are working on prayer shawls to donate to a local nursing home. I realized that shawls are for women so if anyone wants to make prayer blankets (small, throw size) for men that would be a nice idea too!

I was surfing through some knitting websites and found this delicious hat...thought I would share for a good laugh!  If you are interested in the pattern, click on the picture.  See you Thursday. Peace, L

HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY KNITTING HEARTS!

I cannot believe it has been one year since we kicked off this club. We had our first meeting on January 21, 2010 and have donated so many beautiful hand knitted pieces to those in need and or suffering.  I am grateful to the wonderful women who make up the group and want to share that we are a mixed group of old and new knitters, slow and fast knitters!  We invite anyone who might be interested to join us at any time, we are happy to teach!

In 2010 we have made donations of hats, scarves and blankets to the following organizations:

  • Strengthen Our Sisters - a local women's shelter
  • Camp Quality New Jersey - a camp for children with cancer
  • The Valerie Fund - health services for children with cancer and blood disorders
  • Redeemer Soup Kitchen - Morristown (we are still collecting hats and scarves for this group)
Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 27th, 7pm at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse.  We need ideas for future projects so please let me know if anyone has any thoughts!

Some of you were interested in the Moebius Scarf - here is a great YouTube Video that shows the Moebius cast on....if anyone is interested in tackling one of these, I am happy to help!  NOTE: you will need really long  circular needles for this, at least 40" long.

Hope to see everyone on the 27th!  Peace, L

Summer is easy and the knitting is fine!

Hi All,
I haven't been here in awhile but it doesn't mean I am not knitting, hope you all are too!  I wanted to update everyone and remind you all that our next meeting is Thursday, August 19th, 7pm at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse...hope to see everyone then!

UPDATES:
Three blankets knitted by Maureen, Kristina and me were sent over to a fantastic group of knitters at Novartis Pharmaceuticals who were donating them to a local camp for children with cancer.

So many beautiful baby hats went to Saint Martin de Porres homeless shelter and we received a beautiful card from the Director expressing her gratitude.

We have quite a number of beautiful scarves yet to be delivered and many, many blanket squares which are being sewn together as we speak!

Now we are working on caps for cancer patients for the Valerie Fund.  The request is for soft knitted caps  for ages 5 to 25.  There are so many patterns of hats to choose from and I have listed a few I thought were good below.  I also have a pattern from Bernat that uses Softee Chunky yarn.  Easy, soft and fun...I found the yarn at Michael's...Click here for the pattern book and you can see the patterns and yarn too. I knitted one up in just a couple of nights...If you want more details on the pattern and amount of yarn needed, just send me an email or give me a call and I will share the info.

Peace, L

April Knitting!

Happy Spring! Next knitting gathering is Thursday, April 15
7PM at the Fayson Lakes Clubhouse

I know some of you are still working on hats and scarves which is just fine - keep knitting!

We have also decided to start making blankets. Debbie and I have purchased a bunch of skeins of baby yarn and will be looking for some volunteers to knit 12" x 12" squares which we will put together to make lovely little baby blankets - size 10 knitting needles needed! Of course you are always welcome to create your own blankets as well.

Hope to see everyone on Thursday!
